4 More Healthy Teas: Guayusa Tea and More
4 More Healthy Teas
After water, tea is the most consumed beverage in the world. The health benefits of tea are many and each tea has different benefits. Teas can help us lose weight, increase energy, lower cholesterol, reduce stress and so much more.
Few people may realize it but all teas come from the Camelia Sinensis plant. This includes green, black, oolong and white. This subtropical plant, native to Asia, is now grown around the world.
In addition to tea, may other brews are also called tea but are actually made from herbs and are more often referred to as infusions, tisanes or simply an herbal tea. However, because they are also brewed and sipped hot, they are generally referred to as a tea.
Although, historically, different teas were enjoyed locally - depending on where they were grown - more and more a wide variety of teas are being packaged and shipped all over the world.
Below are 4 teas that are becoming popular and their benefits: (also see links below for a wide range of teas)
1 - Guayusa - for energy - Guayusa tea has nearly the double energy-giving benefits of black tea, thanks to 90 milligrams of caffeine per cup. Guayusa also has twice as many antioxidants as green tea, in addition to polyphenols - the compounds that can help lower blood pressure.
2 - Pu-erh (or Puerh) - lowers cholesterol like the more popular oolong tea, but it does so more efficiently. The microbial fermentation process has molecules that help absorb excess LDL (or bad) cholesterol. The black tea is often sold in an interesting brick form pressed into a variety of shapes.
3 - White tea - like green tea is an aid for weight loss. White tea is made from the same plant as green tea but white tea has more EGCG (epigallcatechin gallate) - the potent antioxidant that helps rev up your metabolism. The reason white tea is believed to have more benefits is because it is picked before it is fully grown like green tea. It is during photosynthesis that plants begin to loose their antioxidants.
4 - Gyokuro - helps reduce stress like chamomile tea. It is however, a Japanese variety that is grown in the shade which minimizes photosynthesis (like with white tea in number 3). This means the tea leaves conserve more theanine - the amino acid that can help ease stress by soothing the nerves.
Enjoy!

Love tea and I am a regular drinker. I've tried white tea and like it but they were tea bags - cannot compare to loose leaf tea. Thanks for this new list. I'll look for these teas.

Love teas and I will certainly look for these. I've had white tea which I tend to enjoy more in the summer - but only tea bags and loose is always much better. And pu-erh, I love the creative blocks it comes in if you are lucky enough to find it - you can online. Thanks for the list and the links. Well done! And rated up!
