Need a natural way to increase energy? Try herbs. Herbs have been used as medicine for hundreds of years for a variety of health reasons - including enhancing energy. Herbs that are used to boost energy levels are also referred to as tonic herbs.

Below are 9 herbs that have energy enhancing benefits:

1 - Ginkgo - also known as ginkgo biloba, is an herb that improves energy flow at the cellular level. Ginkgo increases the production of adenosine triphosphate - often referred to as ATP - which helps the brain metabolize glucose for energy.

2 - Siberian Ginseng - known also as eleuthero, is primarily used as a tonic for fatigue and stress. The herb is also popular among athletes for its ability to increase stamina and endurance.

3 - Astragalus - is an herb used to increase metabolism while improving levels of energy. It can be enjoyed as a tea, or used as a tincture. It can also be used in a powdered solid extract form. Astragalus has a long history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to strengthen and invigorate the body. Astragalus was also used in TCM during chronic ailments as a way to reduce physical weakness.

4 - Nettle - is also known as stinging nettle. As a tea, stinging nettle can provides more energy than the caffeine in a cup of coffee. This is due to nettle's large amount of vitamins and minerals. In traditional herbal medicine, stinging nettle is considered a nutritive and is therefore beneficial for restoring energy in cases of recuperation and convalescence.

5 - Ashwagandha - is also known as Indian ginseng and winter cherry. Commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine, it helps to ease fatigue by energizing and rejuvenating the body.

6 - Licorice - a small perennial shrub, often used in TCM, has been used for over 4,000 years. Licorice is beneficial as an adrenal tonic and is used to combat chronic fatigue.

7 - Yellow Dock - is beneficial for its ability to treat anemia which can cause a lack of energy.

8 - Alfalfa - has energizing abilities because it is rich in iron. calcium, B-vitamins and other energy enhancing nutrients,

9 - Black walnut - is extremely beneficial for ridding the body of parasites. This can result in an increase in energy.

Great information here! Myself and the dogs drink Black Walnut Hull. It's part of their natural heartworm preventative program...I started drinking it just because..lol There's a few here I've never heard of too!

I know its not a herb but Manuka Honey in hot water, taken as a tea is amazing for keeping colds, viruses etc away.
